A new fund dedicated to defence technology has been launched by a former Ukrainian defence minister. The initiative aims to support the development of technologies critical for modern warfare. Unlike traditional venture capital models, the fund will combine direct financial backing for existing startups with the creation of entirely new technology companies.

The fund will operate on a dual strategy. It will invest in existing Ukrainian defence-tech firms while simultaneously establishing new enterprises focused on technologies deemed essential for frontline needs. The approach is designed to accelerate innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence-driven systems and autonomous combat solutions.

The former minister announced the initiative during an official visit to Washington. During the trip, discussions were held with venture capital representatives, entrepreneurs, technology firms, experts, and potential partners. The goal is to secure international capital and expertise to help Ukraine gain a technological edge in future conflicts.

The fund will initially focus on three key technological areas. These include autonomous systems, cost-effective missile technologies enhanced by AI, and advanced robotics for combat operations. Further details about the fund’s operational structure and leadership remain undisclosed at this stage.

Negotiations with potential investors and partners are currently underway. The next steps involve assembling an executive team, finalising the fund’s operational model, and launching the first technology projects. The former minister’s specific role within the fund has not yet been revealed.
