Anthropic merges Claude Cowork into Claude, launches Docs and Slides

Anthropic has merged Claude Cowork into Claude, removing the distinction between the chat area and the workspace. This change comes after users expressed frustration with having to decide where to start a task and the inability to seamlessly switch contexts. The new unified platform allows users to ask short questions or assign entire tasks, such as a report due at noon, and let Claude work on it even if the user closes the device. This feature will be rolled out to Pro and Max package users in the coming weeks. The company also introduced Claude Docs for document creation and Claude Slides for presentations.

These tools, along with Claude Design, will be accessible within the same conversation. Users can collaborate on documents or presentations directly within Claude, with the ability to download them as PowerPoint or PDF files. The new features are in beta for paying users, while enterprise administrators can choose when to enable them. Work created with Claude Design, Slides, and Docs will be accessible via a single link, editable on mobile devices, and modifiable either by selecting components or instructing Claude on what to change. The merger aims to streamline workflows by eliminating the need to choose between different tools and allowing Claude to assess the appropriate level of capability for each task.

Users can set preferences for how often Claude seeks confirmation before proceeding with tasks. Existing Cowork users will find their conversations, projects, artifacts, connectors, and skills intact. The changes will be rolled out to Pro and Max package users first, followed by Team and Free package users. Enterprise-level organizations will be notified at least 30 days in advance of any changes.
