Salary Hero Raises 7.6 Million Dollars in Series A Funding to Expand into Malaysia
Salary Hero, a financial wellness platform, has secured 7.6 million dollars in Series A funding. The company aims to use this capital to expand its operations into the Malaysian market. The funding round was led by Cento Ventures, with participation from Kairous Capital and M Venture Partners. This investment supports the company's strategic move to serve workers in Southeast Asia who face financial instability between paydays.
The funding round includes an expansion of the company's credit facility to 10 million dollars. This increase reflects the readiness of the repayment system and its integration with employer systems. The expanded credit capacity also facilitates the company's entry into the Malaysian market. Salary Hero allows employees to access a portion of their earned wages before the standard payday. This service helps workers avoid informal lending, which often carries interest rates as high as 30 percent per month. The platform also provides financial education courses and budgeting tools to support long-term financial planning.
For employers, the Salary Hero system integrates directly with human resources and payroll systems through more than 25 service partners. This integration allows companies to offer the benefit without increasing operational workload. The system meets ISO 27001 data security standards. Companies using the platform, including those in industrial manufacturing, logistics, services, and retail, have reported a 15 to 25 percent reduction in operational staff turnover. This reduction lowers the costs associated with recruiting and training new employees.
Since its launch, Salary Hero has served more than 300,000 employees across over 100 organizations in Thailand. These organizations range from large corporations to growing businesses. The company estimates that it has helped employees avoid informal loans worth more than 150 million dollars. Prabhav Rakhra, co-founder and managing director, stated that the company was founded because the regional financial system did not adequately serve those in greatest need. He noted that factory workers in Thailand should not have to pay interest rates exceeding 20 percent per month to bridge the gap between paydays. The company has proven a fairer model in Thailand that benefits both employees and companies, and Malaysia is the next step.
The expansion into Malaysia addresses a significant local problem. Data from the Bank Negara Malaysia in 2024 indicated that 61 percent of Malaysians found it difficult to access 1,000 ringgit for emergencies, up from 47 percent in 2021. Many rely on informal lenders who use aggressive collection methods. Salary Hero began operations in Malaysia in the second quarter of 2026. The company has established a local team and begun partnering with corporate clients. It aims to serve 50 partner companies by the end of 2027 by combining enterprise technology with local networks. Jonathan Nohr, co-founder, expressed confidence in replicating the success seen in Thailand, noting that many regional clients already have operations in Malaysia.
The platform also uses artificial intelligence to predict employee turnover. Data from Deloitte showed that voluntary turnover in Thailand averaged 12.9 percent in 2025, reaching 32.9 percent in retail. Salary Hero analyzes anonymized human resources data to identify where turnover risks are concentrated, such as by location, team, shift, or tenure. The system tracks how these trends change monthly and assesses whether targeted incentives can retain employees at a lower cost than hiring replacements. Ali Fancy, a partner at Cento Ventures, highlighted that the company ties financial services to the work system to solve problems often overlooked by traditional financial institutions. Joseph Lee, managing partner at Kairous Capital, added that the company sees a gap in financial wellness for low-income groups in Malaysia and aims to support the rapid and efficient adaptation of the model there.
