Donald Trump Announces Agreement for Russia to Supply Diesel to United States
Donald Trump has announced an agreement with Vladimir Putin for Russia to supply diesel to the United States and the global market. Adnkronos reported the story.
The agreement involves the immediate supply of over 300,000 tons of diesel, followed by 500,000 tons in November and 1,000,000 tons shortly thereafter. Additionally, Russia will deliver 3,000,000 tons of diesel in a short period, depending on refinery capacity. Donald Trump stated that this arrangement will lead to a rapid and record decrease in diesel prices for Americans and the world, specifically benefiting farmers, ranchers, and truckers.
As part of the deal, American sanctions on Russian diesel are canceled. The United States Department of the Treasury has authorized transactions for the sale, delivery, unloading, and import of diesel from the Russian Federation. This suspension of sanctions is set to remain in effect until 00:01 Eastern Daylight Time on April 7, 2027.
Volodymyr Zelensky stated that gifts to Vladimir Putin will not bring peace or benefit the civilized world, arguing that peace is never achieved through weakness. He claimed that easing sanctions without a clear and lasting de-escalation agreement encourages Russia to kill more and fight longer. He added that allowing Russia to sell petroleum products invests in a war that should end rather than be prolonged.
Kirill Dmitriev, the Chief Executive Officer of the Russian sovereign wealth fund, stated that energy and economic cooperation between Russia and the United States will continue and benefit the world. Meanwhile, United States and Ukrainian officials told the Kyiv Independent that the cessation of American energy sanctions was one of the conditions requested by Russia to reach a possible ceasefire and truce in the Black Sea.
