Ubisoft announces shutdown of Rainbow Six mobile game in January 2027
Ubisoft announced that their mobile game, Rainbow Six, will cease operations in January 2027, less than a year after its global launch. The announcement came on October 9, with the game set to continue operating until January 15, 2027, and the next season expected to launch as planned next week.
Rainbow Six mobile initially launched in select regions in 2023 and was officially released worldwide in February 2026. The decision to shut down the game has been described as difficult, with the team expressing pride in the vibrant community that developed around the game during its 15 seasons.
The developers highlighted their excitement about bringing Rainbow Six to mobile, acknowledging the contributions and creativity of players through memes, videos, and tactical guides. They also expressed gratitude for the community's involvement in creating memorable moments during the game's lifecycle.
Despite the shutdown, the development team will focus on other long-term strategic projects. In the coming weeks, Ubisoft plans to share information about changes leading up to the game's closure, allowing players to prepare accordingly.
Ubisoft first announced Rainbow Six mobile in April 2022, aiming to adapt the popular tactical shooter game, Rainbow Six: Siege, for mobile platforms. The mobile version includes several popular maps from Rainbow Six: Siege, which continues to perform well in the market. According to previous reports, the game’s creative director stated that even with the release of GTA 6, players remaining in Rainbow Six: Siege would continue to receive exceptional treatment, emphasizing a commitment to their loyal player base.
