Bose has signed a strategic acquisition move by incorporating Skullcandy, known for its young user base. The two companies, which have been collaborating on active noise cancellation (ANC) technologies for some time, officially combine their strengths under one roof with this agreement. Thus, Bose aims to directly expand its portfolio focused on corporate and general consumers to include a young and dynamic segment.

In October's Third Move: Bose Expands Market Share

As competition in the global audio equipment market intensifies, Bose is strengthening its portfolio not only through its own research and development investments but also through strategic company acquisitions. In October, the brand completed its third major acquisition of the month with the investment in Skullcandy, following the integration of Firelight Technologies, focused on audio software, and StreamUnlimited, which develops wireless streaming solutions.

The company, which has a strong position in the premium and corporate segment, is both strengthening its software infrastructure and building a multi-layered product range that spans different price and consumer segments with these steps.

Long-standing ANC Partnership Transformed into Official Acquisition

The relationship between Bose and Skullcandy is not new. Skullcandy has long sourced active noise cancellation (ANC) licenses and related algorithms directly from Bose for its bass-heavy and affordable models. This supply and technology partnership between the two brands has culminated in a full merger as a result of market dynamics.

New Balance in the Wireless Audio Market

The majority of Bose's share structure is held by the world-renowned research institution MIT. This academic and technical legacy has always directed the company towards high acoustic quality but upper segment priced products. The Skullcandy move is considered one of the critical assets that allows the brand to broaden its market share to the lower end.

New models that will meet the expectations of entry-mid segment users, especially in TWS earbuds and wireless over-ear models, are expected to make Bose's noise cancellation and driver technologies much more competitive in the upcoming period.
