The Browser Company has announced that it will permanently discontinue its Arc web browser in December 2026. The decision marks the end of a product that focused on customization, ad blocking, and tab management, as the company shifts its focus to its new artificial intelligence-powered browser, Dia. Aitnews reported the story.

The company’s founder, Josh Miller, published a farewell message titled "Goodbye, Arc," confirming that the browser will exit service within the current year. The company stated that rapid developments in artificial intelligence technology and increasing security challenges require continuous browser development and updates to keep pace with new threats.

Dia was designed with these specific requirements in mind, prompting engineering and security teams to concentrate their efforts on improving and developing its capabilities. This work prepares the company to rely on Dia as its primary product in the coming phase. The company asserts that Dia outperforms Arc in stability, performance, and security tests, positioning it as the natural alternative for users seeking a similar browsing experience.

To facilitate the transition, The Browser Company is enabling users to migrate their data and personal files to Dia. This includes passwords, bookmarks, browsing history, extensions, workspaces, folders, and tab groups. Although Dia relies on artificial intelligence technologies, the company clarified that users can ignore its smart features and choose not to use them if they prefer traditional browsing tools or believe such features hinder the experience.

Arc was launched in 2023 with significant attention due to its customizable interface, built-in ad blocking, and tab organization tools. However, the company gradually shifted toward developing Dia, which raised questions about Arc’s future. New user accounts for Arc can no longer be created, while existing account holders can export their data and transfer it to Dia.

A series of dates has been set to phase out Arc services. On November 23, the iOS and Android versions of Arc will lose their artificial intelligence features and the Browse for Me function. Arc Search will remain available on computers during the transition period, but without the ability to log in to accounts or sync tabs. The final deadline is December 22, 2026, when Arc will be removed from app stores and platforms, cease operation entirely, and have its accounts disabled. Personal data associated with Arc accounts will be deleted after 30 days.
