Pandektes raises EUR 13.5 million in Series A funding round
Pandektes, a Danish LegalTech company, has completed a Series A funding round of 13.5 million euros. The round was led by Alstin Capital, with participation from PROfounders, Scale Capital, and existing investors. The company, founded in Copenhagen, develops a platform that allows lawyers to search and analyze laws, court decisions, and other legal sources. With the new capital, Pandektes plans to expand its operations across Europe and North America, and to increasingly open its legal data infrastructure to external providers.
More than 500 organizations are now using Pandektes, according to the company. Less than two years after its launch, over 500 law firms, companies, and public institutions are utilizing the platform. Within the past twelve months, revenue has increased sixfold. Approximately two-thirds of organizations that test Pandektes subsequently become paying customers, with some fully replacing existing licenses from other research platforms.
Pandektes is entering a market long dominated by established legal databases. The technical challenge in legal data lies not in accessing information, but in continuously collecting, updating, structuring, and linking data from thousands of different sources. The platform automates much of this process, using artificial intelligence to perform tasks traditionally handled by large editorial teams. Human expertise remains important for legal evaluation and quality control.
A key focus is the standardization of legal data across different jurisdictions. For cross-border legal research, especially within Europe, national databases often present limitations. Pandektes aims to make legal information from various countries available in a unified structure, facilitating research on European law. The new capital will be used to extend this infrastructure to additional European legal systems and to North America.
CEO Casper Laursen sees the opportunity to build an alternative to nationally rooted databases whose collections and workflows have been established over decades. Strategically, Pandektes plans to open its data infrastructure via an API, positioning itself not only as a research platform for lawyers but also as a data infrastructure provider. Law firms, companies, public institutions, and other software providers will be able to integrate structured legal data directly into their own applications.
This approach differentiates Pandektes from Legal-AI providers that develop complete work platforms for lawyers. Instead, the company focuses on the underlying data layer, which could become relevant for providers of AI agents and other legal AI applications. According to the company, the reliability of such applications largely depends on the quality and structure of the underlying legal data. In an increasingly competitive LegalTech market, Pandektes seeks to establish itself at this foundational level, leveraging 13.5 million euros to scale its infrastructure across more legal systems.
