OpenAI is in negotiations to raise at least R$ 156.1 billion in a new funding round that may elevate the company's valuation to approximately R$ 7.3 trillion, according to information obtained by Bloomberg.

The potential fundraising occurs just a few months after the company raised one of the largest amounts ever recorded in the private market. OpenAI is reportedly interested in using the new round to continue financing its expansion while preparing for a possible initial public offering.

The annualized revenue reaches R$ 208.2 billion.

The new funding could serve as a bridge round before a possible initial public offering. Despite having initiated preparations to go public, OpenAI does not necessarily plan to conduct the IPO immediately. The company may have postponed its plans until after 2026. This move would allow OpenAI to bolster its cash reserves and finance its plans while remaining a private enterprise.

The need for capital is directly related to the increasing costs of developing and operating advanced artificial intelligence systems. The company needs to expand its computational infrastructure to support its models and products, which requires large-scale investments.

AI safety is also a consideration in the plans. The potential new fundraising comes at a time when OpenAI is facing internal discussions regarding the safety and development of its systems. The CEO has expressed concerns about the risks associated with AI safety.

This issue has become important for the company as it continues developing increasingly advanced models and expanding the use of its systems. OpenAI is also evaluating the right moment to enter the public market, taking into account both its financial needs and the challenges related to technology development. The new round could therefore provide the company with more time to strengthen its business before a potential debut on the stock exchange.

OpenAI has not commented on the negotiation. The negotiations may still undergo changes, including regarding the amount raised and the valuation assigned to the company.

If completed under the currently reported terms, the operation would place OpenAI among the most valuable private companies in the world, with a valuation of approximately R$ 7.3 trillion.
