Unlisted companies announced 17 funding rounds totaling about 9.04 billion yen during the week of August 15–21, 2026, according to Compalyze Journal.

The largest round was led by Craif, which raised approximately 5.3 billion yen through a Series D that included about 3.9 billion yen in new share issuance, 500 million yen in loans, and roughly 900 million yen from secondary share sales by existing shareholders. The funds will support Craif’s efforts in early cancer detection, the report said.

Hinoki, established just five and a half months earlier, secured about 3.1 billion yen through a private placement. The company plans to acquire small and medium-sized enterprises lacking successors, using the capital raised upfront rather than funding each deal individually. MIT Investment Management Company, the asset management arm of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, participated as an investor.

Of the 17 funding announcements, only five disclosed exact amounts, totaling about 9.04 billion yen. The median funding size among these was 282 million yen, with the top two deals accounting for roughly 84 billion yen of the total. One additional round of 4.99 million yen was announced but not yet executed.

Venture capital and fund investors were involved in nine of the 16 rounds where funding sources were disclosed, but no round was financed solely by VCs. Seven rounds had no VC participation at all, with funding instead coming from corporate investors, corporate venture arms, asset managers, or public loans.

Commercial registry records showed that capital increases had already been registered before the funding announcements for five of the 17 companies, though the records do not specify amounts or investors. This suggests capital movements may occur ahead of public disclosures.

According to Compalyze Journal, the analysis cross-referenced public announcements, commercial registry filings, and other official data to compile the weekly funding report.
