British Soldiers Return to School to Combat Drone Threats

British soldiers are temporarily pausing their military lives to return to the classroom. This move is intended to help the British Army better adapt to current drone threats.

Bright reported that the New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering has developed an Autonomous Robotics educational program in collaboration with the army. The course lasts between two and three years, allowing military personnel to study alongside regular students to become engineers. Some participating soldiers have already served in the army for 13 years.

The curriculum focuses on autonomous systems, robotics, and drone technology to increase the number of experts in emerging technologies. Students learn to build, program, and operate drones, while studying mechatronics, control engineering, systems thinking, and robotics. These skills are noted as being applicable not only for soldiers but also within the agricultural and industrial sectors.
