Basic grocery prices rise slightly but remain far below summer peaks, data shows

The cost of a basket of 14 basic groceries rose 0.3% over the past week, reaching 93.89 zł, according to the latest PanParagon data compiled by Business Insider Polska. The increase is modest and follows a sharp drop from earlier in the summer, when the same basket cost more than 101 zł in early July. Compared with a year ago, prices are still lower by about 2.51 zł, or roughly 2.6%.

Prices for some items climbed sharply in the past seven days. Red bell pepper jumped 12.1%, broccoli rose 2.5%, and apples increased 1.7%. At the same time, several staples became cheaper. Potatoes fell 11.5%, followed by carrots at 8.8%. The price of a standard kaiser roll remained unchanged.

Chicken breast stayed the most expensive item in the basket at 23.93 zł per kilogram, though its price dipped 0.5% week-on-week. The basket tracks items commonly found on Polish shopping lists, giving a snapshot of real consumer spending rather than theoretical price lists.

PanParagon, a popular app that lets users scan receipts and track promotions, supplied the data. The service aggregates millions of anonymous receipts each month, covering purchases from large supermarkets, discount chains, and local greengrocers. This broad coverage aims to reflect actual market prices and inflation trends across urban and rural areas alike.

According to Business Insider Polska, the latest figures suggest that while some food prices are rising, the overall burden on household budgets remains lighter than at the start of summer and well below levels seen in mid-2025.
