Amar Ujala Tech advises users on recovering hacked WhatsApp accounts
Amar Ujala Tech reported that users should take immediate action if their WhatsApp account stops working or logs out unexpectedly. This could indicate that someone else has accessed the account using the OTP linked to the user's mobile number. Instead of repeatedly attempting to log in, users should first secure their account and mobile number. If there is suspicion that someone else has used the OTP, users should check settings like Call Forwarding and SMS Forwarding before starting the recovery process. These settings can reveal if calls or messages are being forwarded to another number. To secure the account, users can dial ##21# in the phone's dialer.
This code is used to deactivate Call Forwarding on many mobile networks, although its functionality may vary by operator. After dialing this code, users can file a complaint through WhatsApp's official support or account recovery process. The recovery form typically asks for essential information to understand and resolve the account issue. Users should select the appropriate option if asked whether they are law enforcement officials. They should then select India as the country and enter the mobile number linked to WhatsApp, confirming it accurately. During the account recovery process, users should not share OTP, PIN, or other sensitive information with unknown individuals.
Enabling Two-Step Verification is also beneficial for WhatsApp security. If the account is active on another device, users can attempt to regain control by using the verification code sent to their number when logging in again. However, if someone else has set a Two-Step Verification PIN, the recovery process may take additional time. The most crucial advice is to never share the OTP linked to the WhatsApp account and to be cautious of suspicious links or calls. For any recovery process, it is best to use only WhatsApp's official support channels.
