AI Japan has introduced a new Chrome extension named "LEAK GUARD" aimed at preventing data leaks just before sending information through generative AI services. This tool inspects input content on the user's device, ensuring sensitive information is not transmitted to external servers. The extension allows administrators to view only masked detection history, enhancing data security for businesses.

The LEAK GUARD extension is designed to alert users or block the transmission of sensitive data such as email addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers, and API keys based on company policies. By conducting inspections at the moment of sending, users are prompted to confirm their input before proceeding, which fosters a safer environment for utilizing generative AI services like ChatGPT.

Key features of LEAK GUARD include an inspection process that occurs right before the user presses the Enter key or click sends, ensuring that the full input is scanned within the browser. The extension does not perform continuous monitoring during input, allowing normal usage while maintaining a protective status indicator.

Additionally, LEAK GUARD differentiates between types of sensitive information, utilizing warnings for emails and phone numbers while blocking the transmission of critical data like API keys and credit card numbers. Importantly, actual input data is never sent to LEAK GUARD's servers; only masked representations of detected sensitive content are stored, if any.

The extension provides a management interface for corporate administrators, who can track what information was detected and how it was handled, all while maintaining strict privacy protections. The management system supports user registration and login via Google Workspace or individual IDs, allowing for secure access control and monitoring.

Currently, LEAK GUARD is compatible with Google Chrome and is specifically designed for the web version of ChatGPT. Initial detection targets include API keys, credit card numbers, personal identification numbers, email addresses, and phone numbers. The service is available for corporate clients at a rate of 980 yen per user per month, with a minimum requirement of ten users and an initial setup fee of 48,000 yen. AI Japan plans future developments, including support for additional generative AI services and customizable detection policies.
